FORMER international rugby players Lawrence Dallaglio and Sean Fitzpatrick attended a dinner hosted by Henley Rugby Club to support its redevelopment.
Twenty-three guests attended the event at Hotel du Vin in New Street.
Dallaglio and Fitzpatrick, World Cup winners with England and New Zealand respectively, spent time mingling with guests and presented to the group.
Mike Trethewey, the club’s chairman, said: “We didn’t pay for them to come, they came because they wanted to. Both of them are big rugby stars but they want to give something back into the game.
“They are big supporters of local clubs and particularly minis and junior rugby — we have big sections of both. They stood up together, talked rugby and had a bit of banter as you would expect between a New Zealander and an English person. They were both very free with their time and totally unassuming.”
The club is trying to raise £600,000 to help them build a new clubhouse and changing rooms at Dry Leas, off Marlow Road.
They plan to start work on the clubhouse next year and the changing rooms in 2017.
Mr Trethewey said: “It is absolutely fantastic for these icons of the sport to spend time with us. Both are extremely busy guys who do lots of media work so for them to spend an evennig supporting a local rugby club is absolutely fantastic.”
