A ward councillor in Clewer has raised concerns over a spate of graffiti and vandalism in Windsor and the response time from RBWM.
Bus stops in Windsor have suffered vandalism with the glass being smashed in Clewer Hill Road.
There has also been a ‘spate of graffiti’ in the area.
On June 4, Councillor Alison Carpenter (tBfI, Clewer and Dedworth East) noted that the glass on the bus stop by Keeler Ophthalmic Instruments in Clewer Hill Road had been smashed.
She made a report through the council’s ‘Report It’ system, hoping to get the broken glass cleared up as soon as possible, but the glass remained on the ground ‘all day’ and was cleared by Keeler itself the following morning.
“Normally, the council would clear up broken glass quite quickly,” said Cllr Carpenter.
A few weeks ago, another bus stop was smashed at the bottom of Clewer Hill Road by All Saints Church in Dedworth Road.
The broken glass was cleared on the same day, but the empty pane has not yet been replaced.
Cllr Carpenter added that there has been a spate of graffiti along the stretch as well, which has been reported to the police.
“It’s pretty bad – it’s going as far as the skate park up to my ward and everywhere in between. I’ve been cleaning up myself,” she said.
She said that to her knowledge, one person has been reprimanded for this.
A council spokesperson said: “We strongly condemn vandalism in all its forms and encourage anyone who knows anything about this incident to contact the police on 101.
“A report concerning the damage of the bus stop was received through the council’s online ‘Report It’ system on Tuesday 4 June and we are arranging for the panel to be replaced as soon as practically possible.
“As stated on the ‘Report it’ form, we don’t offer 24-hour turn around through that system, which is for minor issues – we encourage people with matters for urgent attention to contact our Customer Contact Centre.”
Giving an update to the Express on Wednesday, Cllr Carpenter said:
“The officers said [the bus stops] will be fixed in order of safety concerns first.
“I asked how many on the list and will push to get them both fixed on Clewer Hill Road as one has been broken for two months. I’ve been told they will both be fixed within the next month or so. There are 10 others on the list to be fixed.”
