Windsor blood donors honoured

Dedicated blood donors have been honoured for their life saving efforts.

Mary Sibley and Richard Cracknell from Windsor were among the donors from across Berkshire at the annual awards ceremony staged by NHS Blood and Transplant at the Oxford Spires Four Pillars Hotel this month.

Mrs Sibley was the only one there to have made 500 donations. Mr Cracknell had made 75 - something achieved by only three per cent of donors.

Donors were presented with crystal awards by guest speaker Simon Cooper. Simon, who has cystic fibrosis, received blood during a liver transplant as well as blood, platelets and plasma during a double lung transplant.

Anyone aged between 17 to 65, weighing more than 50 kg (7 stone 12lbs) and in general good health could potentially start saving lives by becoming a blood donor.
