Investigation launched after 'amazing' Slough teacher dies in motorbike crash

An investigation has been launched by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) following the death of a Slough school teacher.

Ahmed Bafadhel, 28, of Alpha Street North, Slough, died on Sunday, following a collision while he was riding on his motorcycle.

The incident happened on the A355 Amersham Road, near to the Tower Road junction to Coleshill in Bucks, at about 12.20pm.

Several motorcyclists were involved in the collision including Mr Bafadhel, who was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford for treatment but later died from his injuries.

The IPCC was contacted by Thames Valley Police (TVP) as police were at the scene when the accident happened.

On Monday the police watchdog confirmed it had ‘decided to conduct an independent investigation into the actions of the police’.

No further information has been provided by the IPCC but more is due to be released on Monday.

Following the news of Mr Bafadhel’s death, a vigil was held on Monday at Slough and Eton School in Ragstone Road, where he taught.

He started teaching computing and information technology (IT) five years ago, but his enthusiasm and hard work meant he rose through the ranks and last year was promoted to head of IT and head of year 12.

Headteacher at the school Paul McAteer said: “It was his enthusiasm for helping young people that really shone through. He was so willing to give up his time and he would run after-school clubs for the pupils.

“It has been a terrible blow to us all at the school. His parents should be so proud of him. He was always happy and always smiling.”

As well as his teaching, Mr Bafadhel was a trustee of charity Aik Saath, which is based in Church Street.

Being a trustee meant he worked to set the youth organisation's goals and future projects.

Aik Saath director Rob Deeks described his colleague as 'incredibly warm’.

He added: “He worked very hard to ensure the very best outcomes for our young people.”

In 2012, Mr Bafadhel also helped launch the National Citizen Service in Slough with Resource Productions.

He used his role as a teacher to encourage youngsters to take part in the scheme.

Dominique Unsworth, director at Resource Productions, said: “He was just an amazing and positive person and so supportive to all his pupils.

“Without him the NCS project in Slough wouldn’t be where it is today.”

Mr Bafadhel’s funeral was held yesterday (Thursday) at Stoke Poges Masjid in Stoke Poges Lane.

An inquest into his death was opened on Wednesday and the hearing is due to take place at Beaconsfield Coroners Court on Wednesday, November 9.
