Slough MP Tan Dhesi was on hand to give out participation medals to youngsters taking part in a girl's football festival last month.
The FA County Girls Football Festival, hosted by Singh Sabha Slough FC, saw junior girls’ teams from across Berkshire and Buckinghamshire gather at the Singh Sabha Sports Centre in Stoke Poges Lane to enjoy some football fun.
Taking place from 1pm to 3pm on Saturday, March 9, teams took part in a host of matches and all 50 to 60 attendees enjoyed free cake supplied by Cake House Bakery in Slough.
During the event MP Tan Dhesi gave a speech about girls’ football and helped to hand out the participation medals which were bought for all those who participated
Harpreet Singh Dhesi, club coach and girls team manager at Singh Sabha Slough FC, said: “[We] had a fantastic tournament.
“Everyone had a fantastic time, there was food [and] drinks available for everyone
“It was a really, really good event.”
MP Tan Dhesi said: "Fantastic footballing skills were on display at the FA County Girls Football Festival, hosted by Singh Sabha Slough FC and Singh Sabha Slough Gurdwara, whom I commend for ensuring that their centre continues to be a venue regularly welcoming our whole wider community.
"Such events are vital for fostering inclusion in sports and I hope to soon see some of the girls as Lionesses representing our country."
Organisations also supporting the event included the Singh Sabha Gurdwara, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire Football Association (FA), Sporting Equals, and A.K Events who made a balloon arch for the occasion.
Harpreet added: “We want to be that hub where you can come and enjoy football together, whether you’re male or female.
“We facilitate for both. It’s absolutely imperative that we get girls playing the game because there’s so many good players out there.”
He added that the club is looking to host the event again soon.
Singh Sabha Slough FC is currently recruiting players (boys and girls) aged six to 16-years-old to join the club.
