A 'vibrant' celebration of India’s cultural heritage was showcased at Holyport Memorial Hall at the weekend.
Hindu community group The Sanatan Parivar (TSP) hosted 'Bharat Day' which featured an evening of music and dance to 'unite' the community.
This 'One world, one family’ showcase highlighted India’s traditions and gathered participants of all ages to perform various routines and renditions to honour the country’s cultural diversity.
Organiser Sandhya Raghavan said: “Events like this help keep our traditions alive and inspire future generations to take pride in their roots."
TSP representative Pradip Sompura added: "Bharat Day is a celebration of India’s heritage, but it is also a reminder of the strength we derive from our diversity.”
The program began with a traditional 'Ganesh Vandana' by the TSP Choir, followed by classical Indian dances such as Kathak, folk songs and contemporary performances.
The TSP Youth Carnatic Ensemble gave attendees a 'special treat' with a collaborative display of vocal, instrumental, and dance performances.
The evening also featured a poetic component including recitations of 'Mile Sur Mera Tumhara' and the national song of India, 'Vande Mataram' to underscore the event’s theme of 'unity in diversity'.
RBWM mayor councillor Simon Bond delivered a message about the importance of cultural events in Maidenhead fostering community spirit and presented 'tokens of encouragement' to recognise the talent of the youngest performers.
With over 150 attendees including community leaders, families, and cultural enthusiasts on Saturday, December 14, organisers said Bharat Day was a 'resounding success'.
