Terry Reardon - the man who holds the record for the most appearances in a Slough Town shirt – has passed away at the age of 79.
The Rebels learned of Terry’s death on Saturday and said the ‘legendary midfielder’ should be remembered for his dedication, skill, and contributions both as a player and manager.
As a player he made 475 appearances for the Rebels between August 1964 and April 1981. That came at Wexham Park towards the end of a title-winning campaign for the Rebels.
The club has extended its deepest condolences to Terry’s family and friends at this sad time.
A tribute on the club’s website profiled his career and achievements.
It read: “Terry’s early years in football were marked by representative honours with the Slough and District Schools team, drawing massive crowds to the Dolphin on Saturday mornings. He represented the district side for four seasons and graduated to the county youth side at 17.
“Through his football career, Terry was a hard-working yet skilful midfielder. Terry played for Yiewsley before joining Slough, where he spent four years. After a brief spell away, he returned to Slough and made a lasting impact. He also had stints with Wycombe Wanderers and Chesham United, ultimately transitioning to a management role.
“Terry made the first of his 475 appearances for Slough Town in August 1964, scoring twice in a home match against Erith & Belvedere in the Athenian League. Over his career, he scored 90 goals for the club, with notable performances including crucial strikes against Alvechurch and the clincher in the 1973 victory over Blyth Spartans in the Amateur Cup. He also represented Slough in the 1973 Amateur Cup final against Walton & Hersham at Wembley, playing in front of a crowd of 41,000. His final appearance for the club came in April 1981 at Wexham Park in the Isthmian Premier Division, as Slough edged towards the end of a title-winning season.
“As a manager, Terry returned to Slough to build a strong team of local players. He is perhaps best remembered for masterminding the historic FA Cup defeat of Millwall in the 1982/83 season, a milestone victory for the Rebels.
“Beyond football, Terry represented the National Association of Boys' Clubs, Berks & Bucks FA, and was uniquely capped by both England and Wales at amateur level. He also played cricket for Berkshire.
