Cippenham's new junior girls' team riding high in British League

Cippenham’s new girl’s team are riding high after the first weekend of the Junior British League.

The team of Hannah Silcock, Anna Piercey and Rachael Illes comfortably sit second in the Division 3 table after five matches.

They won four of this weekend’s matches in Derby, a considerable achievement given all the girls are aged 12 in a competition for u18s.

Silcock, from Jersey, led the way with nine wins from 10 individual matches while Piercey chalked up seven wins and Illes six.

Piercey lost their only match as the girls kicked off the weekend with a 5-1 victory over Halton 2nds. Their one set-back came in their second match, a 4-2 defeat to league leaders St Neots.

The encounter was much closer than the scoreline suggests with the first three matches each going to a fifth game.

The team got back to winning ways on Saturday afternoon with a 4-2 win over Britania. The Ipswich-based team led 2-1 at one stage before Cippenham battled back with victories from Silcock (two) and Piercey and Illes.

In contrast to Saturday’s matches, Sunday’s games were plain sailing for Cippenham who beat Ackworth 5-1 in the morning and whitewashed

Lillington 6-0 in the afternoon. Overall it was a dominant day for the club with Silcock and Piercey winning all four of their matches and Illes winning three times.
