A squash festival will be held at Dedworth Middle School on Friday, April 28 and will be open to schools across the Borough.
The event will pilot a demonstration of squash using an innovative mini squash ‘pop up’ court.
The mini court was designed with Melior Sports and can be attached to a wall or be completely free standing.
It can fold to be stored away and assembled in a few minutes.
Should the pilot be successful, qualifying schools will also benefit from the provision of rebound nets, 30 squash rackets and balls and a dedicated coaching programme.
Simon Street, chairman of Berkshire Squash, said: “This solution will enable a whole class to benefit from our curriculum during their sports lessons.”
The open morning on Friday, April 28 will begin at 10am and run through to the afternoon.
Pupils will be encouraged to have fun and learn about the sport.
Schools will also have an opportunity to discuss the service.
Organised by Berkshire Squash and the Royal Borough, the event will feature squash coaching supported by sports leaders from The Windsor Boys’ School.
It is hoped the mini squash court could be a solution to increasing numbers of squash players around the borough.
Berkshire Squash believes the sport builds confidence and resilience in children and young people as well as improving fitness and mental health.
Berkshire Squash will also be offering a fully funded six-week squash course at a local club, to encourage pupils from qualifying schools to further their interest in the sport once they finish learning about it from their school.
Should the pilot be successful, officers from the Royal Borough will create a bidding process to ensure rollout distribution is appropriately done.
Berkshire Squash will also be looking to run after-school clubs and squash clubs at local leisure centres.
