Families had the chance to enjoy games, face painting and some perfect summer weather at a family fun day.
The superhero-themed event, which ran at Larchfield Community Centre, in Desborough Park, on Saturday afternoon, was jointly organised by family support organisation Re:charge R&R and volunteering charity The Challenge.
A group of 10 young people, aged between 15 and 18, helped organise the day, which also featured a visit from the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service and saw firefighters showing children around the fire engine.
The Challenge, which was launched in 2009 and spawned the National Citizen Service, gives teenagers a chance to participate in summer volunteering schemes working with organisations like Re:charge R&R.
Speaking about the scheme, the group’s coordinator, James Lawbuary said: “It’s about getting them inspired about social action and getting them to stand up for things that they care about.
“Through planning this [the family fun day] and a campaign we’re running tomorrow to raise awareness of diversity among different families they can then go away and raise awareness in their own communities.”
