Congregation enjoys Vaisakhi celebrations at Gurdwara in Slough

Thousands enjoyed a ‘joyous’ Vaisakhi celebrations in Slough this month.

Vaisakhi takes place every April and commemorates the establishment of the Khalsa by Guru Gobind Singh in 1699.

On its ‘busiest day of the year so far’, the congregation gathered at the Guru Maneyo Granth Gurdwara in Slough on Sunday, April 13 to take part in the Seva of the Nishaan Sahib.

This involves the changing of the flag at the entrance of every Gurdwara.

Guests of all ages from youngsters to those who are elderly took part in a range of activities at the free event.

These included arts and crafts, the opening of the WithoutShapeWithoutForm Art Exhibition and the Gopi and Joti theatre.

In a statement, the Guru Maneyo Granth Gurdwara Slough, said: “Each aspect of the day embraced the celebration of Vaisakhi - the birth of Khalsa, the formalisation of the Sikh faith and the Saint Solider concept.

“Vaisakhi is an important date in the Sikh calendar as it allows Sikhs to reflect on the teachings of our Gurus as well as apply their teachings of love, discipline and truthful living to our everyday lives.”
