Residents in Windsor, Old Windsor and Ascot could be without water tonight following a burst water main at a water treatment works in Egham.
Affinity Water, which manages the water supply in the areas affected, said:"We would like to apologise to customers for any disruption to their supply following a burst to a 1,000mm main water main at our Egham water treatment works.
"Our teams are on site and are working to cut out the pipe and establish the size for a replacement part.
"However, as the pipe is custom made from specialist glass reinforced plastic, the repair is complex. To maximise the likelihood of the quickest replacement possible, two manufacturing companies are on standby to make the replacement pipe.
"In the meantime, we have been working to maintain water supplies by diverting water in from other areas, but during this time some of our customers may experience lower water pressure than normal.
"We regret that a number of our customers will experience a loss of supply later this evening and would like to reassure our customers that we are doing everything possible to remedy this situation.
"At this time, we are asking our customers in the communities we serve to assist us by reducing their usage of water wherever possible, as during the current hot weather there is a high demand for water."
