A prominent listed building in central Windsor has become the new UK base of operations for an American tech company – after significant refurbishment works.
Grade II listed Admiral House is a business centre in Windsor based at number 78 St Leonards Rd.
D-flo Limited has moved in – a company that specialises in communications technology, including travel, financial and crisis communications.
Its enterprise platform improves document and data flows that underpin transactional communications. The business also operates from Miami, Florida.
RO Real Estate, which represents them on the planning matters, ‘invested heavily’ in the ‘transformation and refurbishment’ of the historic Admiral House, both inside and out – ‘making allowance’ for World War Two reinforcement structures that were found.
Admiral House consists of two storeys and a basement. It is a former Edwardian police station, including a senior constable’s residence, magistrates’ court and fire station.
The senior constable and unmarried police officer accommodation made up the southern end of the building with a separate entrance off St Mark’s Place.
Admiral House dates from the early 20th century (circa 1905-1907), with a mix of Jacobean, Baroque and Classical detailing contributing to its architectural and historic interest.
The main entrance to the magistrate’s court is ‘ornate in appearance with notable classical detailing,’ RO noted in its application.
Admiral House ‘has a strong, prominent presence along the street scene.’
In October 2022, RO applied to ‘sensitively’ transform it into a multi-tenanted office space.
In April this year, permission was granted for the replacement of the air conditioning system, refurbishments to bathrooms and common areas, replacement electrics, CCTV, replacement of the rear door, floor repairs and damp proofing, among other tweaks.
Now fully occupied, Admiral House offers a blend of Zoom rooms and traditional office spaces. It is an open plan with meeting rooms, new shower facilities, cycle storage and parking.
The office space has also been ‘comprehensively updated’ in terms of mechanical and electrical services, RO Real Estate claims.
The building was already being used for office accommodation on all floors and was being occupied by three tenants.
D-flo’s lease at Admiral House is for a five-year term on the modernised lower ground floor, spanning 1,894 sqft.
