Electoral boundary changes are set to go in front of Parliament next month* – adjusting constituency sizes to make their population sizes more equal.
Since 2021, The Boundary Commission for England (BCE) has been reviewing all parliamentary constituencies in the country.
Its aim is to redraw some constituencies to ensure each area has a similar number of voters. The number of constituencies in the South East is set to rise from 84 to 91.
In 2021, its proposed changes were:
• Sonning to move from Maidenhead to a new constituency called Earley and Woodley
• Binfield and Warfield and Winkfield and Cranbourne wards to move from Bracknell Forest to Maidenhead
• Part of Ascot to move from the Windsor parliamentary constituency to Maidenhead
• Twyford and Wargrave moved from Maidenhead to Wokingham
Tweaks have also been made to local authority wards to help maintain balance – including in Twyford.
A new ward called Twyford & Hurst will be created, represented by three councillors. This will be composed of Ruscombe, St Nicholas Hurst and Twyford parishes.
Sonning and Wargrave will move to a new ward called Northern, which also includes Charvil and Remenham.
*An earlier version of this article stated that these changes were set to go before parliament this week (June 1, 2023). They are actually set to go before Parliament on July 1.
