How the train strikes will affect your journey this week

Commuters can expect disruption to their upcoming train journeys after a nine-day overtime ban kicked off today.

Great Western Railway is planning to operate a near-normal level of service until Saturday (January 3) however short notice changes and cancellations are to be expected.

Industrial action by union members of Aslef also begins tomorrow (January 30) and will see a ‘rolling’ series of strikes until February 5.

Significant disruption is expected on Sunday 4 and Monday, February 5 when many parts of the GWR network will have limited or no train services.

Full strike action will then significantly reduce GWR services on Monday, February 5.

Customers have been advised to travel on alternative days as a reduced timetable will operate and many parts of the GWR network will have no service at all.

Disruption is expected until Tuesday 6 February, with some changes to the first services of the day including some planned cancellations.

Great Western Railway has warned passengers travelling during this period to check both outward and return journeys before travelling.

Where GWR can run services, they are expected to be extremely busy and bus replacement services are not able to be provided.

There is currently no industrial action planned for the London Underground and no strikes planned for Elizabeth line services.

To help customers, tickets for strike days are valid for travel on alternative days on GWR services, as per below:

Tickets for Tuesday 30 January to Monday 5 February can be used to travel from Monday 29 January up to and including Wednesday 7 February

Online journey planners are being updated, please check www.gwr.com/strike for the latest information.
