UPDATE 2.57pm: The road has now reopened.
Drivers are facing long delays heading into London after a fuel spill forced the M4 to close eastbound between J3 (Feltham/Harrow) and J1.
A lorry has ruptured its fuel tank, resulting in a large spillage which has damaged the carriageway. It has also forced the A4 to close at the Hogarth roundabout near Chiswick.
The motorway is likely to remain closed until 2pm, and delays are stretching as far back as Slough.
Highways England has advised drivers heading to Heathrow Airport to seek alternative routes.
Traffic looking to head into central London should follow the diversion route along the A312 northbound from M4 J3 and join the A40 eastbound at Target roundabout.
Traffic approaching on the M4 and the M25 prior to M4 J4B is advised to use the M25 clockwise to J16 and then join the M40 and A40 eastbound to travel into central London.
