REVIEW: Phantom of the Opera at the Desborough Suite

I was slightly apprehensive when asked to review the dress rehearsal of Stage One Youth’s production of this Lloyd Webber classic, as we know how unpredictable that particular night can be.  Not so for this show.

Yes, there was the odd hiccup, but nothing to distract from an excellent exuberant performance, and yes, I’m still talking about the dress rehearsal.

If this was a taste of what’s to come, forget about falling chandeliers, this is going to blow the roof off the Desborough Suite.

Harry Simmonds as the Phantom, Eve Shanu-Wilson as Christine and Robbie Alexander as Raoul excelled in a cast of equally amazing talent, making it hard to believe that all the performers, with their confident stage presence and absolutely stunning vocals, were under the age of 20.

Congratulations must go to all involved in this must see production, for it is youth theatre at its very best.

The Phantom of the Opera is at the Desborough Suite until Sunday.
