WATCH: Paper Mill features in film produced by EastEnders star
Filming takes place at Taplow Paper Mill for 'Four'.

It may have stood dark and empty for years but the mammoth Taplow Paper Mill is now the leading light in a new nationally-released film.

British thriller 'Four', produced by EastEnders actress Nina Wadia and her husband Raiomond Mirza, was filmed almost entirely at the disused and derelict Mill Lane site in February last year.

The dark comic, which was released on DVD on Monday last week, casts the abandoned mill as a remote warehouse and features an angry husband who hires a detective to kidnap his wife and her lover.

Raiomond said the site, which has been the subject of numerous development attempts in recent years, was the 'perfect' location for the film.

"We were quite stunned when we found it," he added.

"The place is in such a glorious derelict state that we had to do very little set-dressing to it.

"It was like a fifth character for us. We really played on the ambient noises and creaks, the groaning of the building and the wind."

Filming took place in the middle of the night over three weeks and the cast and crew, including actors Martin Compston, Craig Conway, Sean Pertwee and Kierston Wareing, stayed at The Thames Hotel, on the other side of the river in Ray Mead Road.

An office at the site was also used for production and as a gathering point.

Raiomond, also a film composer, said: "We didn't want to cause any fuss so we kept it very quiet. People noticed us in the hotel and approached the actors, but it was all very good-spirited.

"It's such a huge space, with little pockets of a bygone life and glimpses into a closed world.

"For something so big and self-containing to be lying there empty now actually fits in with the message of the film - don't get complacent."

A premiere for the film was held at Empire Leicester Square in October last year.
