It was an incredible weekend for Eton Excelsior Rowing Club as their young rowers won a huge haul of medals at the South of England Indoor Rowing Championships in Abingdon.
The team, many of whom only took up rowing last year, won 13 gold, five silvers and three bronzes.
The first big success of the day was Olivia Bennett who won bronze in the J12 girls’ individual race, with Lilybeth Ihezue winning gold in the J13 girls’ race and setting a British record in the process.
Bennett and Ihezue then teamed up with Jemima Wales and Bea Cook for the J13 girls’ relay, where they won gold.
Competing over four minutes in the J14 girls’ race, Lucy Tomalin won a silver medal, before she joined Daisy Horler, Eve Lombardo and Elizabeth Wales for the J14 girls’ relay which the team won by 12 seconds.
It was gold again for the J15 girls’ relay team of Amy Donaldson, Juliette Salgado Smith, Katya Robbins and Emma Berry, with Robbins also winning bronze in the J15 individual race.
In the J18 men’s race Josh Walker, Oscar Cowan, Sacha Lachin and Adam Smith won silver.
