Public notices: hope for fix to 'unreliable' fire alarms at Grade I listed Bisham Abbey

This week’s public notices include a closure to Harvest Hill Road and an application to replace ‘unreliable’ fire alarms at Bisham Abbey sports centre.

Road closures

Part of Harvest Hill Road in Maidenhead is set to close for a week from today (Friday). The closure, from the road’s junction with A308 Windsor Road to the boundary of a property called ‘Tamarind’, will last from midnight on Friday until midnight on Friday, May 23.

Harvest Hill Road is within an area where hundreds of new homes are under construction. The council said a closure is needed to permit work on a new power connection which could pose a danger to the public.

Planning

An application has been lodged to replace an ‘unreliable’ fire alarm system in a listed building at Bisham Abbey National Sports Cente.

SEGRO, which runs the nationally accredited centre, has applied for permission to upgrade the system as the work would needs listed building consent.

Bisham Abbey is Grade I-listed and dates back to the 13th century, while other medieval buildings at the site include a circular dovecote and barn.

The proposed fire alarm works would take place in the Abbey building.

‘The current wireless system is unreliable given the complexity of the building layout and thickness of the walls’, a design and access statement on the plans said.

“The current system is often logging faults and failed batteries as a result even with the installation of 67 wireless signal boosters.

“This presents issues and potentially leaves areas of the building not covered by detection.”
