Maidenhead’s Eagles Netball Club have been crowned u16s National Clubs Finals Champions having shown top form throughout the finals weekend at the David Ross Sports Village in Nottingham.
The Eagles u16s team finished the weekend undefeated to finished clear at the top of the table above Kingsway Power in second and Bramhall Netball Club in third.
They showed they meant business right from the start with a dominant 37-9 victory over TTNC Warriors - who finished down in 16th. While they backed that up with another commanding performance in a 37-8 win over Herts Dynamos who finished 11th overall. This saw the Eagles top group E with a goal average of 4.35 - the best by far in the competition through the opening group matches.
They regrouped well for stage two of the competition and continued to show their quality with back-to-back wins over Sheffield Steel NC (12-36) and Grangetown (32-11), while there was no let up from the girls as they kept their perfect record intact with victories over eventual bronze medal winners Bramhall Netball Club (12-46) and AP Saints (14-34).
Having finished fifth in 2024, the Eagles then showed their progress over the past 12 months in the latter stages of the competition. They set up a final against last year’s bronze medallists, Kingsway Power.
Led on the first day by Netball Super League Head Coach of the NIG Leeds Rhinos, Lauren Palmer, Kingsway also came into the final with an undefeated record.
Something had to give, and although both sides gave everything in a thrilling final, the Eagles just about had the edge and managed to secure a 23-27 victory. In the third-place play-off Bramhall Netball Club triumphed 24-23 over Aces in one of the tightest matches in the whole competition.
At the presentation ceremony, Kingsway Power’s Lois Cowin was named the Most Valuable Player having impressed with her consistent performances at goal shooter, while Future Rose Izzi Phillips and England Netball President Joan Mills were on hand to present the Eagles with their winner’s trophy.
All the results can be viewed via the Netball Connect App while the matches can be downloaded and watched via England Netball TV.
Organisers thanked all the clubs who took part as well as the competition officials, volunteers and partners – British Army, Physique Management, Perform Better, Gilbert, Here We Flo, Collection Cosmetics and Sports Tours.
