Connie Dean is one of Britain's elite swimmers at 17-year-old

Maidenhead’s Connie Dean is the sixth fastest woman in the country at the 400m individual medley after reaching the final at the British Championships on Tuesday.

What made Dean’s sixth-place finish in a personal best of 4mins, 47.42secs more remarkable is that she is only 17-years-old.

The final was won by 26-year-old Hannah Miley who made the Rio Olympics qualifying time.

Connie’s brother Tom is also at the competition being held in Glasgow, as is fellow Maidenhead Marlins Swimming Club colleague George Taplin who raced the 400m freestyle and made the junior final, finishing third in a personal best of 4.00.36.

The British Championships, which sees events across three categories (junior, Target Tokyo and open) climaxes on Sunday.
