Cat bells are being deployed as the latest weapon in the war against pickpockets in Windsor and Maidenhead.
The bells, which jingle if a thief tries to pinch a wallet or purse from a bag, are being offered to residents free-of-charge in the lead up to Christmas.
The bells, usually seen on a cat collar, are specifically aimed at helping elderly and vulnerable residents.
The bells, which do not jingle as you walk, can be picked up from Windsor and Maidenhead police stations and from neighbourhood officers.
Maidenhead town centre Sergeant Michael Welford said: "It is a simple measure but it will give people a little more security."
