A chemist owner has thanked people for supporting an eye clinic which was held in India last month.
Gurdip Bahra, the owner of Kay’s Chemist, in Ross Road, has just returned from a ‘very successful’ trip to Chachoki in the Punjab, India.
More than 400 patients were screened and 110 were identified as needing cataract surgery.
The Rotary Club of Maidenhead has sponsored the clinic for the last six years and this year the eye camp was further supported by the Rotary Club of Maidenhead Thames who donated £500.
Gurdip said: “The camp was a huge success. Over 400 patients were screened, 110 out of these were identified needing cataract surgery. The operations were performed free of cost over the course of a week.”
“Patients not needing cataract operations benefitted from treatments for minor eye problems including infections. Free eye tests were carried out and majority of patients were fitted with prescription glasses.”
“Over the last six years over 2,500 people have been screened and over 600 cataract surgeries performed.”
