Redwood House Surgery celebrates good result in CQC inspection

A champagne celebration was held at Redwood House Surgery after the practice received the results of its Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection.

The surgery in Cannon Lane was graded as good overall after achieving a good grade in every category.

Inspectors marked the centre in areas including safety, effectiveness, care, response to needs and leadership.

GP partner Sarah Hodson said staff had celebrated with champagne after finding out the good news last week.

“We thought when they did the visit it went really well, we were able to show the inspectors how we worked effectively at the surgery,” said Dr Hodson.

“The feedback on the day was excellent.”

She added that patient feedback had been highlighted as a particular strength, saying that no complaints had been made to the inspectors.

The report said staff were well trained, that patients had said they found it easy to make appointments and that continuity of care was evident.

’Patients said they were treated with compassion, dignity and respect and they were involved in their care and decisions about their treatment,’ it stated.

’Staff understood and fulfilled their responsibilities to raise concerns, and to report incidents and near misses.

’Information about safety was recorded, monitored, appropriately reviewed and addressed.’

Dr Hodson said it is the first time the surgery, which has about 6,000 patients on its books, has been assessed by the CQC.

She described it as a positive move which allowed well-run surgeries to be recognised.

The CQC is carrying out inspections nationwide, with the aim of repeating the visits every three years.
