Paralympic gold medalist Sophie Christiansen led the countdown as 2,500 runners competed in the Pharmalink Maidenhead Half Marathon yesterday.
Thousands of spectators cheered on the athletes along the 13.1-mile course.
The race set off from Maidenhead Town Hall at 9.30am, looped up Sutton Road to Cookham and back round before finishing at the starting point.
The course was tweeked from last year to improve the route and apart from a slight hiccup when the inflatable over the finish line began to lose air, organiser Claire Donald, of Purple Patch Running, hailed the half marathon as a runaway success.
Much of the money raised will go to the Link Foundation, with a number of other charities benefiting from individual fundraisers.
