'Bag it, tie it and bin it' is the message being promoted by the Royal Borough during National Poop Scoop Week 2012.
Responsible dog ownership is being encouraged by community wardens who will be out and about handing out leaflets outlining the law and how to report foul play.
The wardens can now issue fixed penalty notices to anyone who fails to pick up their dog mess promptly.
Refusal to pay the £52 fine can lead to prosecution and a court appearance with a maximum penalty of £1,000.
The initiative began on Monday and runs until Sunday (June17).
Report incidents of dog fouling to the council's streetcare team at streetcare@rbwm.gov.uk or on 01628 683800.
