Pay-on-exit parking could be introduced widely across the Maidenhead by next year.
That was the good news from the Royal Borough's cabinet member for highways, transport and environment Cllr Phill Bicknell. He was talking at Thursday's cabinet meeting.
The introduction of exit payments from Monday at Nicholson's car park marks a victory for residents and business people who had been campaigning for it for years.
Drivers will still be able to pay at the start of their stay if they prefer.
Cllr Bicknell told colleagues at the cabinet meeting that more car parks could become 'pay on exit' by 2013.
The cabinet gave the go-ahead to plans for a borough wide 'pay by phone' scheme expected to be implemented by July this year.
