A passer-by pulled a driver from the wreckage of a car crash moments before it burst into flames.
Police and fire crews were called to the A4 in Knowl Hill after a 34-year-old man crashed a black Mercedes into a ditch at about 4am.
The driver was taken to intensive care at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading by ambulance with serious suspected spinal injuries and multiple broken bones.
A fire crew from Maidenhead spent two hours at the scene near the Seven Stars pub, putting out the flames. Police are investigating the cause of the crash and are appealing for witnesses.
