The accident, which happened at about 1pm between Maidenhead and Slough, required crews from Maidenhead and Slough to assist the ambulance service.
The firefighters helped paramedics rescue a man from one of the vans, and he was taken to hospital for an assessment.
Three other people were assessed on the roadside and were given the all clear.
The collision caused delays for about two hours.
