Maidenhead United 3, Woking 0
Maidenhead United played their Cards just right for a famous fourth qualifying round FA Cup win over Woking at York Road on Saturday.
The Cards were blown away by Kieron Forbes’ fifth-minute stunner and second half strikes from Harry Pritchard and Dave Tarpey as United sealed a famous 3-0 win at York Road.
It was also United’s first win over a National League Premier side in the competition and they progress to the first round of the cup for the first time since 2011.
The match was only five minutes old when Forbes picked up Jake Reid’s pass and thumped a shot past Jake Cole from 20 yards.
The visitors pressed as the hosts sat back and Carl Pentney saved well from John Goddard in the 22nd minute and from Daniel Holman’s deflected effort six minutes later.
United wrestled control back at the start of the second half in breathtaking fashion. First Pritchard raced clear and lifted the ball over the advancing Cole to make it 2-0 after 55 minutes and five minutes later Tarpey swept home after Cole spilled another angled shot from Pritchard.
Forbes came close to his second of the game with a low shot from distance and Dean Inman headed just wide of Cole’s post for the rampant hosts. Pentney then saved well to deny Matthew Robinson with his feet in the 72nd minute and Rene Steer almost scored an own goal a minute later but United fully deserved this famous FA Cup win.
Afterwards their victorious manager Alan Devonshire said: “We’re in the first round and have beaten a team from the Conference convincingly. I’m so happy for the fans and just hope we can get a league club at home in the next round.
“We scored three cracking goals and the boys have been terrific. We defended really well as a team and we were dangerous on the break so it’s a faultless performance.”
