Maidenhead United 0, Boreham Wood 1
Maidenhead United produced one of their best defensive displays of the campaign, but were stung by a late goal from Ricky Shakes in a 1-0 defeat to Boreham Wood.
The victory moves Wood to within a point of leaders Bromley, and condemns the Magpies to their second straight home defeat -after last weekend's poor 2-0 loss to Whitehawk.
Shakes blasted home on the volley in the 82nd minute after Junior Morais was brilliantly denied by the legs of United stopper Ashley Timms.
It was harsh on the Magpies who’d defended resolutely in the first half to blunt Wood’s considerable attacking threat, and had been the better of the two sides after the interval.
Magpies started well and James Russell reacted well to palm Tyrell Miller-Rodney’s instinctive volley over the bar after a bustling run and cross from Adrian Clifton in the third minute.
Boreham dominated the half thereafter without carving out too many clear cut chances.
Lee Angol had a goal ruled out for offside and Timms pushed Daryl McMahon’s stinging drive around the post in the 28th minute.
McMahon powered in another shot that Timms had to beat behind at the start of the second half but that galvanised the Magpies into their best football of the match and one flowing counter attack saw Miller-Rodney played in on goal but the midfielder scuffed his shot and Russell got down well to block.
The game appeared to be heading for a stalemate until Shakes fired home to boost Wood’s promotion hopes and push relegation threatened Maidenhead toward another demoralising home defeat.
The Magpies rallied in the final minutes. Tarpey's volley from Timms' free-kick was saved by Russell and Brentford loanee Kieran Morris headed over the bar from a corner in the final seconds.
