About £7,500 was raised at a charity golf event for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Graham Edwards, 42, a British gas engineer who lives in Heywood Avenue, arranged the golf charity day and the fundraising raffle over the past few months, and it took place on the weekend of Saturday, June 4.
He was inspired after a number of his friends were affected by the disease.
Despite it being the first charity event he has put on, he secured prizes for the raffle from dozens of companies by calling and asking if they could donate anything to the day.
He also ran an online fundraising page which he encouraged friends and family to donate to.
Graham said: “We wanted to do something to show them a bit of support.”
He started the event with the aim of raising £3,000, a total he more than doubled over the weekend.
