Fenella Smith designs at home in Henley

Most of us know an animal lover and buying gifts for them is always easy, whether it's a cute toy for their pet or a novelty wall calender.

But it's not often that you come across animal-themed accessories that appeal to anyone outside this group.

Henley is home to one of these ellusive animal-themed and yet tasteful range of homewares. Her name is Fenella Smith and the animal range in question was actually designed by her own brother, a non-animal lover.

It's not that he doesn't like animals, he just doesn't love them or want them as pets or anywhere near him despite the fact that they seem to love him.

Coming from a family that is mad about animals and having grown up surrounded by them, it comes as no surprise then that despite Gregor Smith's indifference towards the family's furry friends, he ended up designing this rather stylish range of tableware for his sister.

Or perhaps it is for this very reason that the designs are not at all kitsch and project a naive and charming aspect of a host of creatures including flamingos, pigs, bees, cats, chickens and dogs.

The simple style fits in with the rest of Fenella's ranges and yet possess a character that is, not surprisingly, less feminine than her other designs and would therefore make the perfect gift for a lady or a gent.

You can find Fenella's handywork all over London and nationwide, but if you're looking for a local stockist try Cocoa Bean at Windsor, The Quince Tree in Stonor or White Garden in Henley.

Visit www.fenellasmith.com to see the range.
