Slough Town sign experienced defender Reiss Greenidge

There are just 18 days until football returns to Arbour Park and Slough Town are in the process of finalising their new look squad as well as their pre-season friendly programme.

The Rebels are likely to have at least 10 new players to integrate into the squad during pre-season and have so far lined up eight friendly fixtures with one more home game still to be confirmed ahead of the new league season - which kicks off on Saturday, August 9.

Centre half Reiss Greenidge is the latest to join the Rebels revolution, bringing their number of summer signings to 10 so far. He also links up with younger brother Jordan - who also signed this summer - with the pair set to play club football together for the first time.

There have been plenty of coming and goings at Arbour Park since the season finished in late April. Several key players have moved on - including David Ogbonna, Dan Bayliss, John Gilbert, Jeanmal Prosper and Edon Pruti - however, they’ve been swiftly replaced by Kiki Oshilaja, Adam Desbois, Tyrese Dyce, Jordan Greenidge, Tyrique Clarke, Wiktor Makowski, Jaiden Drakes-Thomas, Peter Ojemen and Tarik Gidaree.

Experienced centre half Greenidge joins the Rebels after his departure from Maidstone United.

The 28-year-old brings with him a wealth of experience from across the English and European game while he also has 11 caps for his native Guyana.

At 6ft6ins he is an imposing and physically powerful centre back known for his aerial dominance and athleticism - attributes that have served him well during a career that’s seen him play in the EFL, National League and Norway’s top two divisions.

Greenidge began his career at the academies of Arsenal and West Brom before gaining senior experience at Ebbsfleet United, Hemel Hempstead Town, and in Norway with Sogndal and Arendal. He returned to England with Bolton Wanderers in 2020 and was part of their promotion winning squad from League 2 before featuring regularly in a senior long loan with Barnet.

Greenidge joined Maidstone United in October 2022 and made himself an integral member of the squad, featuring 36 times last season and playing in all three of their playoff matches as the Stones lost narrowly to Boreham Wood in the National League South play-off final.

In 2024 he played in the club’s famous run to the fifth round of the FA Cup, starting their 1-0 third round win over Stevenage and making a substitute appearance in their impressive 2-1 win over Ipswich Town at Portman Road.  He also helped Maidstone lift the Kent Senior Cup in 2024.

“Getting Reiss over the line is a massive plus,” said Davies.

“He had a fantastic season with Maidstone United in 2024/25, where he played a huge part in their charge to the play-off final.

“Having another left-footed player in the back line adds real balance and will prove to be good competition for the defensive players in our squad.

“I know that Reiss and Jordan will be playing together for the first time, so that makes it all a little bit extra special — and I’m looking forward to witnessing it.”

On X, Davies added: “We said that we wanted to build a powerful, dynamic team to be able to compete at our best in the NLS, and the signing of Reiss is proof in the pudding of that. 6’6, no nonsense with great experience of the league. A top addition.”

You expect Slough aren’t quite done yet in terms of incomings and outgoings either, with Slavi Spasov expected to move to a National League club soon.

This week it was announced that Dan Bayliss had signed for Slough’s National League South rivals Chesham United while former club captain, Josh Jackman, has found a club ‘closer to home’ having agreed to join Hitchin Town. He left the Rebels this summer after a decade of loyal service due to work and family commitments.
