New publicans Adam Harman, Mandy Prince and Edward Horne (L-R)
The Rising Sun pub in Hurley is set to reopen next week under a new management team, who say they are ‘in it for the long run’.
A trio of new publicans will take over the High Street venue, which will be open seven days a week from its reopening on January 16, following its closure on New Year’s Eve.
The High Street pub has endured a turbulent few years as management changes caused its ‘sudden’ closure in 2024, and the subsequent tenants announced their leaving in August 2025.
New publicans Adam Harman, 35, Edward Horne, 33, and Mandy Prince, 45, hope their time pulling pints at The Rising Sun will provide the stability it needs.
The trio are ‘long-time friends’ who live in the Tilehurst area.
Mr Harman and Mr Horne, who are married, own a facilities management company in the Reading area, while Ms Prince is a former restaurant manager for fish and chip shop chain Harry Ramsden’s.
A chance opportunity to take on The Rising Sun came when they visited the pub after Mr Harman and Mr Horne purchased a holiday caravan in Hurley.
Mr Horne said: “Me, Mandy and Adam were out one day, and I just said about getting a static caravan so me and my husband and my dogs can get away for the weekend.
“We went down to Hurley to the campsite and me and my husband actually bought a caravan down there, then we went to the Rising Sun to just go and have a drink to celebrate.
"We walked in and said how beautiful the pub could be and should be, and the current tenant has said he's leaving at the end of the year.
“We looked straight into it, and we got approved straight away [to take over the management].”
Work now begins to overturn the pub for its next lease life.
The trio receive the keys to the pub on January 10 and have until the its reopening six days later to perform a makeover which includes newly painted walls and sanded floors.
Mr Horne said: “It’s going to be a totally different look in there when we open – a totally different look – it’s not going to look anything like it does at the moment.”
A revamped kitchen menu will also be on offer, Ms Prince said, and will begin with a limited offering before an ‘a la carte menu’ featuring steaks cooked at customers’ tables launches in April.
Ms Prince added: “There are future plans to renovate the toilets as well and also the back area, the floor there needs to be redone, but those won't be day one.
“We’ve got a long-term plan and we're in it for the long run.”
The Rising Sun is set to open its doors to the public from 4pm on Saturday January 16, with canapés served and live music.
‘We want to welcome everybody to the up and coming Rising Sun,” Mr Harman said.
