Dedicated pub crawler Dale with 'Wildcat' Willie from Windsor and Eton Brewery.
Windsor pubs were delighted to welcome a well-known social media figure and beer enthusiast who runs the popular Great British Pub Crawl.
Dale Harvey and his wife Holly describe themselves as ‘A Notts-based couple attempting to visit every single pub, bar, micropub, social club and anywhere else they serve beer across this great country’.
Their videos grant a peek inside thousands of watering holes, with the pair giving their insights into the history of the pubs and what they have to offer.
The pair have more than 173,000 followers on Facebook, 24,000 followers on Instagram and each of their YouTube video tours collect thousands of views.
On Thursday, October 23, Dale came to Windsor for the first time (alone this time) to ‘take on 20 of the town’s wonderful beer houses.’
Dale began at The Swan in Clewer, which Dale dubbed ‘a beauty of a community-owned pub’. He said: “You can feel the care, the attention to detail. It’s a labour of love every single day.”
Dale was ‘very impressed’ by the beers from Windsor and Eton Brewery and dubbed it ‘a great brewery space’ with ‘a stunner of a taproom.’
Dale visited classic pubs such as The Two Brewers, The Prince Harry and The King and Castle, plus some more modern ones such as Indie Rabble and Two Flints.
He described the Windsor pubs as ‘absolute gems’ and, signing off on Facebook, said Windsor was ‘a phenomenal place’ for a drink.
“It was a real pleasure to get a look around the absolutely amazing Windsor & Eton Brewery who have been making beer for the Royals for as long as you can remember,” he wrote.
“What an amazing brewery and taproom they have… and don’t even get me started on the beers… as you can see… one wasn’t enough…”
Dale said he plans to come back to check out a dozen more establishments he didn’t get to see.
News of the visit to Windsor attracted much positive local response on social media, and the pubs themselves were delighted.
Willie ‘Wildcat’ Morgan, who hosts Windsor and Eton Brewery’s tours, enjoyed the visit. He said:
“God knows how he's done this. [Going to] 20 pubs in Windsor and having a drink in each one, and the day after us, he was in Huddersfield – the bloke is a machine.
“I asked him how many pubs he’s been to in the UK and he said 7,100 or something.
“So many pubs are closing and he wants to keep the pub culture alive, making a point about how important it is to keep them open. Not just because of the beer, but because of the social aspects as well.”
For the Swan, Dale’s arrival was ‘a lovely surprise’, they said.
“[Dale is] doing his part visiting every pub in the country and reviewing to keep the pub and hospitality trade alive,” the team said.
The Great British Pub Crawl through Windsor was sponsored by A Hoppy Place micropub.
Writing on the Facebook, A Hoppy Place said: “Good luck on your way to 10k [pubs]. Glad our crowd looked after you!”
