Hurley pub The Rising Sun set to reopen under new owners after ‘sudden’ closure

New owners are set to takeover The Rising Sun

The Rising Sun pub in Hurley High Street is set to reopen under new management before the end of September after its ‘sudden’ closure early this month.

A message posted on the pub's Facebook page on Sunday said ‘we are gutted we’ve had to close’ and ‘goodbye from all of us from the Rising Sun team’.

But the brewery running the pub has confirmed it is set to open under new operators – whose identity has not yet been revealed.

Departing director Ashwin Roda - who ran the pub for three years - said: “It was sudden, the business wasn’t there anymore in Hurley.”

The Rising Sun Facebook message read: “Unfortunately from today the pub is closed we have loved every part of being part of Hurley village and we are gutted to have to close.

“Every one of you always supporting us from the beginning we really appreciate all your support.

“This is a goodbye from all us of from the Rising Sun team see you all soon.”

Speaking to the Advertiser, Ashwin offered an update on the Rising Sun’s future.

“I’ve spoken to the brewery,” he said. “Someone should be taking over next week so it's not going to be closed for too long.”

And addressing pubgoers to the Rising Sun he added:

“I would love to thank them for all their support over the years and it’s a lovely pub – it needs supporting.”

A spokesperson for Stonegate pubs said: "The site is closed for the next few weeks.

“A new publican has been recruited and will be officially reopening the doors of the Rising Sun at the end of September, with the date yet to be finalised.”

Stonegate's website advertises the Rising Sun as an 'idyllic English country pub' located in an 'enviable position in the pretty Berkshire village of Hurley'.

It lists the guide monthly rent as approximately as £769 - and an anticipated turnover of £527,763.
