HUNDREDS of swimmers took part in a swim along the Henley Royal Regatta course.
The 2.1km swim, known as the Selkie Henley Classic, took place early on the Sunday morning, two days before the regatta.
Clubs, schools and individuals grabbed their goggles and squeezed into wetsuits before making their way to Temple Island Meadows for the start. As they faced the Thames, they were greeted by a green laser, which lit up the river past its famous landmarks, including the Barn Bar, Phyllis Court Club, the members’ grandstand and Henley Bridge.
The fastest female was Vicky Cunningham for the sixth year running in a time of 32 minutes and 32 seconds. The fastest male was Matthew Breckon, who completed the course in 26 minutes and four seconds.
The event, which is organised by Henley Swim, began 20 years ago when two rowers, Tom Kean and Jeremy Laming, ditched their boat for wetsuits.
