A man from Slough who was twice caught dumping waste in a layby in Burnham has been fined in court.
On both November 1 and 30 last year, waste was found illegally dumped at Allerds Road. It was found by Buckinghamshire Council’s enforcement team, which carries out regular work in the area, becuase it is a target for fly-tippers.
On both occasions, camera footage showed a vehicle reverse into a lay-by, and stay there for several minutes on each occasion. When the vehicle drove off, waste was seen to have been dumped.
The vehicle was traced back to Saqib Hamza, age 26, from Slough. He was interviewed at Slough Police Station twice.
On the first occasion, Hamza denied allegations of fly-tipping and tried to blame one of his friends. However, after having time to think, Hamza requested a second interview in which he pleaded guilty to both offences.
He appeared at High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court last month to face the consequences of his actions.
Magistrates fined Hamza £961 – less than it might have been, in acknowledgement of his early guilty plea – and ordered him to pay costs and compensation of more than £2,501.
He also had to pay a victim surcharge of £384, making a total of more than £3,846.
Buckinghamshire Council ‘has a zero-tolerance stance on fly-tipping’, it says.
It is against the law and offenders caught in the act ‘will face enforcement action including fixed penalties or prosecution where the available evidence allows.’
If you have evidence showing an offence taking place and you are willing to provide a witness statement, the council asks that you contact its enforcement team at: SCRAPflytipping@buckinghamshire.gov.uk
