The council has vowed to clear up an historic obelisk in Windsor town centre which was defaced with graffiti.
Vandals spraypainted a black ‘hangman’ image over the Jubilee Obelisk in Bachelors Acre.
The monument commemorates the Golden Jubilee of King George III and has stood proudly in the town centre park since 1810.
The obelisk is also adorned with plaques from historic milestones during the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.
This includes a traditional Ox roast which was held in Bachelors Acre in 2002 to mark the Queen’s Golden Jubilee and a similar celebration to mark the Diamond Jubilee in 2012.

The council has faced criticism on social media for delays in cleaning the obelisk with some residents saying they reported the issue more than a month ago.
A council spokesperson said: “We’re committed to creating a cleaner, greener and safer borough and aim to remove offensive graffiti within 18 hours of being reported and all graffiti on council property within 28 days.
“Work has begun to carefully remove the graffiti from the obelisk. Residents can report graffiti via our website”
