THIS year the Henley Children’s Theatre adds another new pantomime to its repertoire.
Having directed the group for nearly 30 years, Muffin Hurst has penned her first script for the enthusiastic young performers.
Rapunzel — a Tangled Tale is full of the usual fun and high jinks, with plenty of hairlarious jokes and happy tunes to entertain all ages.
The story follows the traditional tale of the unfortunate princess seized at birth by the evil fairy and incarcerated in a tower.
It falls to the principal boy, Bob, a hapless comedy duo of Tony and Dai, and the good fairy, Hairy Styles (yes, a boy fairy!) to navigate the plot to a happy ending.
The scene stealers, as ever, are super-cute Class A, who appear in the guise of glittery Nits, and the Alice Band provide a strong chorus. The cast consists of more than 100 local children ranging from four to 15 years of age — although alternating performances mean only half will be performing at any one time.
The Henley Children’s Theatre Christmas panto has entertained locals for 47 years — if you’ve not been before, you should start a new tradition yourself and get it in your annual calendar.
Rapunzel — A Tangled Tale is playing at the Kenton Theatre in New Street, Henley, from Friday, December 30, to Saturday, January 7.
