Maidenhead Golf Club hosted its final Captains’ Drive-in earlier this month after nearly 130 years on the site.

The traditional curtain-raiser to the club’s golfing year ushered in new captains Roger Keys and Amanda Shevills, who managed respectable drives in front of the assembled crowd at Shoppenhangers Road.

The occasion on Sunday, January 19 also provided the opportunity to donate funds raised by 2020 captains Andrew Coates and Pam Thomason.

Their chosen charity went into administration shortly afterwards, but they managed to recover some of the funds and agreed to distribute them to the four subsequent captains’ charities.

Representatives of the four charities were invited along to receive a cheque of £2,500 for each of their organisations and enjoy the hospitality provided by the club.

Among them is this year’s nominated charity, Number22, who support young people in our community.

The other donations were also made to Alzheimer’s Dementia Support, Thames Hospice and Thames Valley Adventure Playground.
