Amazon has donated 100 digital devices, including laptops and desktop computers, to libraries across the Royal Borough.

The contribution forms part of the tech company’s ongoing effort to promote digital inclusion in local communities.

Around 14 public libraries across the borough will receive the new equipment, helping to widen digital access for residents.

A special event was held at Maidenhead Library to mark the donation, attended by Councillor Jack Douglas, Cabinet Member for Communities and Leisure, and Councillor Helen Price, Corporate Social Responsibility Champion.

Cllr Douglas said: “Libraries are at the heart of our communities, offering free access to technology and support for those who need it most.

“This donation from Amazon will make a real difference, ensuring our residents can continue to access the services they need.”

These new devices will help residents get online, build confidence with technology, and access essential digital services, while increasing digital literacy support.

The upgraded equipment will also help the borough’s libraries staff and volunteers to continue offering one-to-one digital support.

The donation followed the Royal Borough’s call for sponsorship to help upgrade existing digital technology in libraries.

Amazon stepped forward as part of its wider commitment to supporting the communities where its employees live and work.

Brian Huseman, Vice President of Public Policy and Community Engagement at Amazon, said: “Amazon is passionate about increasing digital access for communities in Berkshire and across the UK.

“When the team at the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead asked for our support, we were keen to lend a helping hand.

“This investment marks the foundation of Amazon's long-term commitment to supporting digital equity in Berkshire and we are excited by potential of these devices to increase digital opportunities for residents across the Royal Borough.”

Amazon’s support of the Berkshire community extends to Amazon MGM Studios’ partnership with Parallel Windsor, an award-winning event which champions disability lifestyle.

Amazon MGM Studios is also a partner of Screen Berkshire, an initiative which supports local crew and talent with ‘on set’ training.

Over the next two years, Screen Berkshire and its partners will use this ‘Create and Credit’ skills development model to produce film projects that will up-skill 100 freelance crew and people entering the creative industry.
