A double award win at the Windsor and Maidenhead Business and Community Awards has been a ‘springboard’ for a fast-growing company providing flexible office space.
Brothers-in-law David Johnston and Will Ballantyne wanted a co-working hub for residents to ‘better balance their work and real life’, and opened the first MyWorkSpot office in Maidenhead in 2017.
Their team scooped ‘Business of the Year’ and ‘Fastest Growing Business’ at the awards ceremony in September 2023, and what followed was an ‘incredible’ year.
“Winning awards such as Business of the Year is certainly humbling and has been a springboard, showcasing our business to the local area but also recognising our team for the great work they have done,” said director and co-founder Will.
“The last year since winning the Business of the Year has been incredible, we have opened a new site located next to Maidenhead train station as well as winning our first nationally recognised awards in the summer.”
MyWorkSpot is ‘a home’ for businesses, a ‘ready-made community’ for solopreneurs and a ‘better way of working’ for companies looking for a satellite office.
In addition to York House, the company opened its newest 19,000 sqft workspace and flagship centre ‘Proxima’ in Grenfell Road this week.
MyWorkSpot will sponsor the ‘Fastest Growing Business’ award at this year’s ceremony in the Castle Hotel, Windsor.
Will said fast-growing businesses are ‘exciting places to work’, and added: “Being the winner of an award like this is great for a Maidenhead business as it highlights that business to potential customers, investors and employees all of which are very important to a growing company.
“We are really excited to be sponsoring such an award, especially one that has helped us on our journey.”
He said the annual awards ceremony, organised by the Maidenhead & District Chamber of Commerce, is ‘really important’ for the Maidenhead business community.
“When running a business, it is hard to take the time to reflect on the successes you have achieved but it is really important,” said Will.
“The awards offer that opportunity for businesses alongside being able to meet and develop relationships with other Maidenhead-based businesses.”
MyWorkSpot has built a community of businesses working under the same roof developing strong business relationships and collaborations.
Facilitating such ‘meaningful personal and business connections’ within the MyWorkSpot community is the company’s objective.
“The awards have a similar influence in one night, showcasing the various businesses but giving people the opportunity to meet like-minded individuals,” added Will.
Besides business success, the Windsor and Maidenhead Business and Community Awards on Friday, November 22 will recognise community heroes who have gone ‘above and beyond’ to make a difference in the lives of others in the area.
Some categories include Best Company to Work For, Young Hero Award and the coveted Business of the Year prize.
The event is held in association and partnership with Baylis Community Media CIC, publisher of the Maidenhead Advertiser and Slough & Windsor Express.
