Burnham delivered a five-star performance to maintain their spot at the top of the Combined Counties Premier Division North.

The Blues welcomed Hilltop to the 1878 Stadium on Saturday for a game which saw both sets of players tested by rapidly changing conditions, from beaming sun to driving rain.

Burnham came out the wrong side of a 1-0 scoreline when the two sides faced each other back in September.

But Mo and Omar Bakali’s youthful side quickly made amends by dominating the visitors with one of their most clinical displays of the season.

Winger Shyon Dennis continued his sparkling form as he scored twice in the first half – firstly tucking away a neat through ball by Yahaya Kamara before converting a penalty on the stroke of half time.

Experienced forward Jordan Brown also helped himself to a brace by drilling home a cutback for Burnham’s second and dispossessing Hilltop’s backline to slot past the goalkeeper for the Blues’ third.

Joint boss Mo Bakali said his side simply had too much class for their opposition on the day.

He told the Advertiser: “Hilltop are always a very good football team. I thought it would be a lot closer and more of an even matchup on the 4G but if I can blow our boys trumpet a little bit and say we were very good on the day and just too good for them.”

Former QPR academy prospect Dennis continues to light up the division and he had a hand in Burnham’s fifth goal as he bamboozled his defender with stepovers before squaring for Christian Mulindwa to score.

Bakali added: “We know how good Shyon is and how good he can be. He’s got 12 goals in about 15 games now so he’s really starting to find some form and consistency.

“Shyon is a product of the QPR academy. He came out the system and lost his way a little bit but our goal is to get him enjoying his football again and firing on all cylinders.

“It looks like he’s doing just that at the minute.”

Burnham welcome Ashford Town (Middx) to the 1878 Stadium on Wednesday evening.
