Maidenhead United have a powerful ally helping them promote their activities for this year’s Non League Day on Saturday, March 28.
The Magpies have teamed up with Italy’s 'Old Lady', announcing a one-off collaboration with Juventus to mark the occasion.
Italy’s most successful team - with 36 Serie A titles and two European Cups to their name - have agreed to support United’s 'Football for a Fiver' fixture against Weston-Super-Mare on March 28, the game coming during the international break when eyes usually on the top leagues around Europe refocus on clubs further down the pyramid.
Juve have chosen to support the Magpies for Non League Day due to the similarity between the two club’s iconic black and white strips, even if that’s largely where the similarities end.
Both clubs have worn black and white for more than 100 years, with the Old Lady adopting their famous stripes in 1901.
Juventus originally wore pink shirts with a black tie but switched to black and white in the December of that year.
The Magpies trace their black and white roots to 1919 and the merger of Maidenhead FC and Maidenhead Norfolkians. More than a century later and both clubs continue to don the black and white colours, with the Magpies currently turning out in a fetching half and half jersey, proudly emblazoned with their sponsors The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM). A few seasons back Juve wore a similar strip when Cristiano Ronaldo was in their ranks. Kelme produce the Magpies kit with Addidas the suppliers of Juve’s.
To show their support for Maidenhead and the club’s plans for Non League Day, Juventus plan to send over a home shirt which will be framed and displayed by the Magpies for many years to come.
Juventus supporters in the UK are also encouraged to come and support the Magpies while their team takes a break for international football.
Shay Bottomley, Maidenhead’s marketing and media manager, said: “We’re very grateful to Juventus for their backing ahead of Non-League Day.
“Juventus fans are renowned for their fantastic vocal support, so I’m sure they’ll fit right in with the Magpies at York Road.
“It’s shaping up to be a brilliant celebration of Non-League football.”
All tickets are £5 when purchased in advance, with Under 17s eligible for £1 when accompanied by an adult.
