Royal Borough councillors have come out firmly against Government plans to allow homeowners and businesses greater scope for expansion without needing planning permission.
Cllr Michael John Saunders (left), cabinet member for planning said: "The general opinion up and down the country is that this is not a good idea and would not bring the economic benefits anticipated."
He was speaking at last night's cabinet meeting and his report on the issue was overwhelmingly accepted by colleagues.
