A suspected drink-driver is due to answer bail after hitting a group of horse riders near Ascot.

The 41-year-old, from the Winkfield area, was arrested after his black Audi  smashed into three horse riders in Hatchet Lane, Winkfield on Saturday.

One horse was killed in the crash. Two others had to put down at the roadside by a vet as a result of their injuries.

An adult and child were also taken to Frimley Park Hospital by ambulance and air ambulance after suffering serious fractures, facial injuries and suspected head injuries.

The driver failed a breathalyser test and was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink-driving and driving without due care and attention.

He is due to answer bail at Maidenhead police station on January 22.

Police closed the country road for four hours whilst fire crews from Slough, Maidenhead and Bracknell worked to clear the scene.
