The future of the Golden Harp pub is unclear with rumours circulating it has been bought by Tesco.
The site in Furze Platt Road is set to close its doors for the final time on Sunday, just five months after it re-opened following a refurbishment.
A statement from the supermarket giant said no agreement had been made with Enterprise Inns, which owns the lease for the pub.
"It is just rumour and speculation and like lots of others sites in the UK we have looked at this site," it added.
The company would not comment on whether it was still interested in developing the site.
Enterprise Inns was unavailable for comment.
